Welcoming Baby Jack - Unmedicated Hospital Waterbirth
Our journey to welcome Jack was filled with both anticipation and challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was working with an obstetrician who insisted on scheduling a C-section for a low-lying placenta that had already moved out of the way. Navigating this situation was stressful, as we were determined to have the natural birth we had always envisioned. Thankfully, with perseverance and the incredible support of our midwife, we stayed on course and prepared for the natural birth experience we desired.
We are thrilled to share that our precious Jack is now one week old! His arrival came at 41 weeks and 3 days, after trying nearly every natural induction method available—two stretch and sweeps, spicy food, walking, sex, clary sage, raspberry leaf tea, dates, and acupressure points.
The journey to meet Jack began mostly at home. We relied heavily on hypnobirthing tracks, breathwork, light touch massage, and a heat pack on my back. We created a serene environment with a dark room, utilized the FLOP technique, and explored various labour positions, especially on all fours. I spent time swaying on my partner, Seb, took soothing baths, and used a TENS machine to manage the contractions.
Labour started at home around 7 PM, with the first strong contraction hitting at midnight. We left for the hospital at 6 AM, and by 6:30 AM, we were rushing through the hospital entrance, our amazing midwife, greeted us there. She respected all our wishes and was instrumental in helping us achieve the birth experience we envisioned, especially after dealing with low placenta issues earlier on.
After less than 3 hours at the hospital, we had a natural, unmedicated water birth, our midwife providing incredible support by simply stepping back and allowing me to deliver our baby boy. Seb was also phenomenal throughout the entire process. His unwavering support, calm presence, and love were beyond words. I truly couldn’t have done it without him.
