Baby Choice Birth: Val’s Unintentional Empowered Homebirth

On the 26th of March 2024 at 9.40pm my water broke and we went to the hospital with hubby to make sure Bub was ok. They checked his heart rate and everything was fine, they really wanted to do a cervical check, but I refused. (I never had a cervical check through the whole pregnancy). I didn’t have any contractions at this stage so we left to go back home. Went to bed around 1.40am to get some rest hoping that I will start contracting soon.

Around 2.15am I woke up to mild cramping and I knew that I was in early labour. 15 minutes later I had an intense contraction and 11 min later another one. I moved to the living room to let hubby sleep as I knew I will need his support when I go into active labour so I just put the hypnobirthing tracks and made myself comfortable. I found myself relaxing and repeating the affirmations I had been listening through the whole pregnancy.

Before 6am things started getting intense, I had three surges 4 min apart hit they were only 20 seconds long. I decided to wake hubby as I felt I needed more support through the contractions at this stage. 10 minutes later surges were getting very intense and hubby called the birthing suite just to check if we should go in. They said that me being first time mum and had only been in labour for a very short time, surges will likely space out so we should stay at home for the time being.

10 minutes later again I was having surges back to back and couldn’t talk, I had to really focus and breathe! My husband saw this and asked me to go to the hospital to which I just responded that we won’t make it. I just knew that I was going to have my baby at home, as I had always wanted. Perhaps not under the circumstances I had originally wanted, but I was having part of my dream birth happening.

I got on all four and told him to call the ambulance. I felt the urge the push. In this moment I surrendered and repeated to myself that me and baby are safe, my body and baby work in harmony and I will soon meet my baby. I let my body push and felt him move through my body feeling every sensation in such a beautiful way.

The ambulance had arrived and were talking about trying to get me to the hospital to which I refused. Zayn was then born moments later at 7.57am. He was immediately passed onto my chest. He had the perfect colour and after his first short cry he just looked into my eyes and I had my heart stolen forever. We did delayed cord clamping, natural delivery of the placenta and 4h of skin to skin where he lached perfectly.

They took me to the hospital to get checked where me and bubba were so respected and treated so well.

I can’t believe this is my unmedicated and empowered birthing story that I’m so grateful to have experienced!

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the confidence you gave us to achieve this, the hypnobirthing course was the reason I was so calm and my mindset was set right to experience this.

Can’t want to do the refresher course when second bubba comes along!
